Targeting Your US Job Search On A Visa

I know times are tough for foreign nationals holding visas of any type in the US when they are just graduating, ending a project, or getting RIF’d. But I’m getting a lot of recent grads reaching out to me, personally, looking for jobs I don’t have. I wouldn’t mind so much if I didn’t clearly state on my LinkedIn profile that I don’t have any entry level positions, and that we don’t have any sponsorship opportunities with our clients (most of whom are very small, lean startups that are not even financially able to consider sponsorship). If you are on an OPT and not worried about a potential H1-B, *say so*. I’m also happy to connect you to my recruiting industry peers if you identify a job at their company that you have applied for (but ASK me specifically for an introduction to that person, and include the job number OR URL of the job you have applied to).

Here is a potential resource to help students/professionals needing either an H1-B port, or are on an OPT looking for a home that will be able to potentially submit an H1-B application for them. Use it to identify companies that file H1-B applications in some quantity and use your discipline as one of the filters. Then target those companies accordingly. You can search by company, date, discipline, and geography.
